History of the Inn at Mount 'N Sea

The Inn was owned by the Duncans and Alexanders who were a
mercantile family shipping out of Duck Trap or Saturday Cove. The
Duncan, Alexanderand Knight ancestral graveyard with gravestones
dating back to 1736 are located here.

In the 19th century, the house was owned by the Pennington family and used as
a summer retreat for themselves and their guests (including President Wilson). It
was here at the Inn President Wilson coined the phrase "Seven miles to a yeast
cake," given the Inn's proximity to Camden and Belfast where one would
have to go in that time period to purchase yeast for bread making.

Back in the earlier part of the 20th centruy, it was known as the
Holiday Lodge and was operated by Mr. and Mrs. Farrel. In the
1960's, Joe Ryan owned it along with the Mount 'N Sea Motel.

Today, the Inn is owned and operated by Maurice Trundy of Northport.
